Inspiring the minds of children through nature...
Joyce Ireland, Controller
Joyce Picture

Privileged to have grown up with woods and a year-round waterfall in her Bridgeport, Ohio, backyard, by the fall of 1990, California-transplant Joyce Ireland was looking for a ways to share nature with her city-bound toddler.  Chancing on a listing in LA Parent magazine, she requested a walk schedule and was so impressed that she became a Nursery Nature Walks member before she and daughter Nalani attended their first walk.  It was on that first walk in Sullivan Canyon that docents Deanne Rushall and Debbie Aaberg recognized a kindred spirit and told her, “You should be a walk leader.”  One thing led to another as Joyce became a festival volunteer, board director, training babysitter, walk assistant, walk leader, and finance volunteer. Husband Bill Rowe’s loving support has allowed Joyce to continue her commitment to CNI where she currently serves as assistant chief financial officer and controller.  Their daughters also volunteer, with Nalani participating in the Kids Leading Kids program and Amanda working in the office.  Joyce highly values her involvement with CNI, her friendships with its outstanding volunteers and staff and its many opportunities for personal growth and satisfaction.
