Inspiring the minds of children through nature...
Becoming a Nature Walk Leader is as Easy as Pie
Trails, Tools, Topics

Imagine never leaving the city - never seeing the ocean or the forest. This is the reality for many of the kids we work with. CNI trains you to be their guide, to share their awe and joy at discovering a larger world.

Walk leaders need three tasty pieces of training, in any order

Trails Join CNI on trails near your home. Sign up to see what CNI's programs are like or to practice the skills you've learned in Tools or Topics classes.
Tools This class teaches you the fundamental tools to be a leader, from how to talk to young kids to what to bring on the trail.
Topics Each class focuses on fun topics that fascinate children such as camoflage, insects, animal calls, and so on. You may keep attending these classes to broaden your knowledge, but only one is required to start leading.

Kids are welcome to take the training with their parents! Please ask about childcare for children 5 and under. Kids remain within sight and within earshot of training parents. Older children are encouraged to remain with parents.

To offset the costs of child care, staff, and training materials, we ask for a $60 donation from new trainees, but no-one will be turned away for lack of funds. In return, you'll get a CNI t-shirt, badge, a copy of our book, and one year of membership discounts.

You can make friends with our other great walk leaders on CNI's Outreach Walks for under-privileged kids. Three leaders take groups of 20 kids each on walks that run from 9:45 to 12:15 on Mon-Thurs with occasional Fri/Sat trips. Or, pick your own date, time, and trail as you lead walks for families in your community. CNI does all the advertising and signup work.
